The Unbound Voice
A 5-day Immersive Retreat with Bethan Lloyd at Cae Mabon
1st - 5th October 2025
The voice is the bridge between worlds.
The body is the temple.
Sound is the offering.
Come to the wild edges of North Wales, where river meets mountain and the old stories still hum beneath stone and moss.
Join us for five days of devotional voicework, body-led exploration, and elemental remembrance in the sacred landscape of Cae Mabon.
This is not a singing retreat.
This is a return -
to something older than performance.
A remembering that lives in our bones,
in the soil,
in the sound between sounds.
We are not here to sing pretty songs.
We are here to sound the deep music of our becoming.
To listen so closely to silence and stillness
that when the voice comes, it is true.
To remember:
the voice is not separate
not from the river,
not from the stone,
not from the sky.
The voice is not your own.
It is the earth remembering itself through you.
The voice is an ancient, transformational force -
a gateway into trance,
a thread connecting us to the heart of creation.
In reverence for the mystery.
The Unbound Voice is a journey of reclamation:
of voice as a living thread,
a tool of transmission,
a bridge between the visible and invisible -
between what has been forgotten
and what is ready to be born.
“Bethan has a unique understanding and reverence for the human voice. She holds a unique and empowering space for people from all walks of life to explore and find authentic sound from within - weaving elements of folk song, deep body work and the ancient magick of collective toning and improvisation. I have never experienced such a level of creative freedom, presence and deep human connection as I have when sounding and singing with Bethan in the Welsh mountains!”
Through deep presence, sonic ceremony, and embodied listening,
we won’t just explore how to use the voice -
we’ll remember why we have one.
To open the body as a portal.
To allow voice to rise - not from the surface - but from the deep inner landscape.
To reweave ourselves with the web of all life… through presence, breath, and vibration.
When you sound from this place, you don’t need to prove anything.
You don’t need to perform.
You become a vessel for something truer, wilder, and more free.
“Bethan unveils buried treasure like no-one else I know. She teaches with immense love, strength and self-confidence… dares you to delve deeply… to bear your sorrows… and then stand up again afterwards.”
We will move gently between solo inquiry and collective resonance,
between silence and wild sound,
between myth and direct experience.
This is the quiet revolution:
To return to voice not for spectacle - but for belonging.
Together, we listen.
Together, we sound.
Together, we remember.

Meet Your Facilitator - Bethan Lloyd
Bethan Lloyd is a ritual artist, voice guide, and composer whose work opens the voice as a channel for the unseen, the ancestral, and the alive.
Her practice is rooted in devotion, somatic presence, and the intelligence of the earth. She invites people to remember the voice not as something to shape, but something to be shaped by - a living thread between worlds. She guides from the threshold where body becomes prayer, and voice becomes offering.
Bethan studied Theology and Religious Studies at Cambridge University, seeking answers to her lifelong questions about existence and the sacred. But her real training came through the body: walking the mountains, singing to trees, and listening to silence. She has spent time living in ashrams in India and with Indigenous communities in Brazil, and entered long periods of solitude and silence in her Welsh homelands - experiences that rooted her understanding of sound as a spiritual technology and a gateway to remembering.
Her musical life flows directly from this devotional path - a weaving of voice, land, and spirit through sound. She has shared her work across the globe in collaboration with artists in film, television, and live performance, with an upcoming album produced by Lankum’s John 'Spud' Murphy to be released later this year.
From her early singing roots in Wales, her journey has always been a search for what is most true. Through silence, song, and a listening body, she came home to the voice as a sacred tool of reconnection - with place, with lineage, and with the living world.
Her spaces are held with fierce tenderness and quiet power - places where the forgotten can be remembered, and the unseen made audible.

“Bethan is a magical guide who will draw your voice out from its hiding place and lead it on an exhilarating emotional journey, from the serene to the playful, the sacred to the dirty, and the angelic to the monstrous. She'll bring out your inner spirit creatures - whether they be rasping badgers, hooting owls or operatic dragons - and get them to sing in joyful harmony.”
Brett Scott, Writer
“I met Bethan while deepening my spiritual awareness and connecting with the indigenous roots of these islands. I wasn’t a singer, but through Bethan’s inner work, my experience was transformed. Bethan will take you deep, to meet parts of yourself aching to be heard. She works with deep ancestral connections, drawing on nature’s boundless energy to bring about inevitable transformation.”
Philippa Mcmahon, Guide & Healer
“Working with Bethan during the production of my latest film about intuitive magic was a splendor. Her facilitation helped performers dive deep into themselves and fully occupy the performative body. Bethan’s attention to space, her vocal wisdom, and her ability to unlock the human spirit were truly incredible.”
Lauren Pringle - Movement & Film Director
“Bethan has transformed the way I think about my voice, making sound, and creating art. In her workshops, I’ve been able to channel the unconscious and unleash creativity from deep within. I struggle with anxiety around singing, but Bethan’s method has helped me push through. Her teachings are deeply connected to our ancestors, the land, and nature — teaching us to listen deeply and open ourselves to the songs waiting to be heard.”
Shireen, Visual Artist & Vocalist
"Bethan Lloyd has a mischievous knack for getting you to do things you didn't know you could do, especially when it comes to the sounding voice. Full-throated yodels, delicate harmonies, pounding hearts, subtle vibrations, stomping giants, ethereal choirs... All are within her range. But you'd better be careful. She might transform you into a new kind of being. You may even find a freedom you never knew was possible. In the play of singing sound.”
Eric Maddern - Writer, Founder of Cae Mabon
“Bethan brings a deep, intuitive presence to her work, with mastery over voice and sound. She creates a safe space for even the shyest to express themselves. Her approach is playful, authentic, and inclusive, weaving magic alongside embodied practices that lead to healing and transformation. I’ll never forget the spontaneous ritual that emerged during an exercise in silently expressing challenging emotions, and the way Bethan expertly held space for deep release.”
